WHAT PRICE A CHILD LIFE? POSSIBLY YOUR OWN CHILD

 

EVERY COUNCIL CAN IMPLEMENT THESE ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES NOW, IF THEY WANTED TO 
EVERY local authorities can insist on the school bus sign being removed when a bus is not being used to carry school children.

 
Insist hazard lights are used during pick up & drop off [ PUDO] you will see this name used further down.

Insist on the safety sign changing.there's is no maximum size to the safety sign, which means it could be much larger, the councils are working toward this end [ we are expecting an announcement regarding this & other measures in the next few months ]

 Insist coaches/ buses fit extra hazard lights higher up on the vehicle

 Insist illuminated signs can be placed in both front & back windows

 
Insist seatbelts are fitted in every school bus.The problem here is there is a huge cost to this, the problem is, What price do you  put on a childs life

FIRSTLY WE WOULD LIKE TO CLEAR UP SOME CONFUSION
REGARDING THE THREE ACCIDENTS FEATURED ON THIS SITE
 
WE WOULD LIKE TO POINT THIS  OUT TO EVERYONE
 
WE would add The children had left the bus stop, none of the children  had walked out from behind the bus,nor in front of it , nor in front of a any car.
 
 
Robyn was well over the road when she was hit !
Alexander was at the verge on his side of the road, a foot fall from safety!
Erin  was virtually at the kerb on her side of the road!
We would also add, none were wearing iPod's or using a mobile phone, as many would like to point out they were, especially drivers!!
They were leaving school transport, as they were taught to do,as all parents teach their child to do, observing road safety .
None were larking about,there is no accounting for the careless driver who does not pay attention.
 
 
RUMOURS HAPPEN FOR A REASON
 OFTEN SPREAD TO MAKE OTHER DRIVERS FEEL BETTER
OR TO AVOID HAVING TO ANSWER QUESTIONS FROM OTHERS
 
YOU NOW HAVE THE WHOLE TRUTH, AS IT HAPPENED ,& IS RECORDED IN POLICE STATEMENTS
 
Because a speed limit is 60 mph or 30mph does not mean it’s always safe to drive at that speed, especially on roads with bends & dips, as on country roads, many drivers forget that. At times 60mph on main roads can be to fast.

The story of how my fight started follows. This has now HOWEVER turned into our fight.
In 2004 my Grand Daughter Erin Beaty aged 8 was knocked down getting off a school bus & she was left totally wheelchair bound. She is totally reliant on others & requires 24 hour care.

I then found out it affected many other families & that we were lucky, God in his grace returned Erin to us, Erin was prayed for in many countries worldwide & in the UK.

 The saddest news to our family was, that on 4th September of 2008, 15 year old Robyn Oldham was killed,then approx 2 weeks later, on the 19 th September, 12 year old Alexander Milne was also killed. 
We have  joined together to fight for change, to ensure this stops.
IT DOES ALSO HAPPENS UK WIDE
If your children or grand children are using school transport, think about this.

Can you imagine sending your child to school, seeing them leave home as normal healthy children, children that can run, walk & speak properly, do everything a young child should be able to?
Then 7 hours later seeing them lying at deaths door & left severely brain damaged.
Or the worst news any family can receive, finding out their child has been killed & that also virtually every area, every constituency in Scotland has been affected by this.

These accidents are recorded as pedestrian accidents, they are not, it is a school bus accident.

We do not expect every accident will be avoidable, that is impossible, but most could be avoided.

There are so many options open that would cost very little & would be virtually bolt on to school coaches 

 WE CAN CHANGE  THE LAW

OUR OBJECTIVE IS A LAW THAT STOPS VEHICLES PASSING ANY SCHOOL BUS AS IT LOAD OR UNLOADS.
IT WORKS IN NORTH AMERICA WHY NOT HERE.
MOST PARENTS I SPEAK TO ARE ARE IN AGREEMENT.
THE MAIN PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE, DRIVERS  WILL BE HELD UP ON THE WAY TO WORK OR ON BUSINESS.
THE FACT IS, MOST OF THESE DRIVERS ARE PARENTS OR GRANDPARENTS.
SO THINK ABOUT THIS, IT'S MAYBE YOUR CHILD GETTING OF THE BUS THAT GETS KNOCKED DOWN, CAUSED BY ANOTHER DRIVER  WHO COULD NOT WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES .
ARE WE REALLY IN SO MUCH OF A HURRY WE CANNOT TAKE TIME TO ENSURE SCHOOL CHILDREN  SAFELY CROSS THE ROAD.
WE COULD BE SPEAKING ABOUT YOUR CHILD OR GRAND CHILD HERE.

THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT CAN TAKE THIS BEFORE WESTMINSTER.

AT THE MOMENT WE HAVE A LIVE PETITION BEFORE THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT, EARLY INDICATIONS ARE THAT SAFETY WILL CHANGE, BUT THE QUESTION IS, BY HOW MUCH?
ALSO WILL EVERY PUPIL BE GIVEN THE SAME LEVEL OF SAFETY, IT CANNOT WORK OTHERWISE!

IN THE SHORT TERM  WE  CAN  DO SO MUCH IN PASSING LAWS & USING COMMON SENSE TO PROTECT SCHOOL PUPILS LIVES.
PLEASE READ ON TO SEE THE OTHER IMPROVEMENTS THAT CAN BE MADE. AN
WHO SAYS SO, THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT & THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT.THEY ALREADY STATE THESE IMPROVEMENTS CAN BE IMPLEMENTED ANY TIME.
SO WHATS THE HOLD UP, SOME LOCAL AUTHORITIES DONT EVEN KNOW THESE IMPROVMENTS EXIST, NEVER MIND THE FACT THEY CAN IMPEMENT THEM. NOW
SO READ ABOUT THEM & THEN ASK YOUR COUNCIL WHY THEY DONT ENSURE YOUR CHILDS SAFETY BY USING THEM.
[1] I am sure each one of you has seen a school bus, with the sign displayed & used for other purposes, its affect has been diluted, its legal to display when children are aboard the bus,but its not illegal to leave it displayed when they are not that’s SIMPLY STUPID.

Why would anyone use this sign on minibuses at night, buses not on the school run.etc. But they do

THE D.O.T ,SCOTTISH GOVERMENT & LOCAL COUNCILS SAY IT SHOULD BE REMOVED, SO WHY DONT ALL COACH COMPANIES DO SO?

[2 ] It should be illegal to use the sign unless children are aboard the bus. We need the sign updated & changed as happens to many Health & Safety signs over time.
Bus adverts are larger than the sign we use for safety should it not be the other way round? We need to rethink this?

THE BUS SAFETY SIGN CAN BE ANY SIZE, THERE IS NO LIMIT, WHY DO WE ALWAYS SEE THE MINIMUM STANDARDS APPLIED, INSTEAD OF THE MAXIMUM SAFETY STANDARDS.

WOULD ADULTS TRAVEL TO WORK, OR IN FACT WORK UNDER THE MINIMUM SAFETY STANDARDS, I DOUBT IT, SO WHY ARE OUR CHILDREN!!
 

[3] Buses to be more visible, extra large hazard Lights set higher like ambulances at roof height. 

THIS CAN BE APPLIED  ANYTIME
 

[4] A scrolling sign in both front & back windows,even part of the destination board. There are many options. From small flashing strobe lights to a scrolling sign as in, " DANGER CHILDREN CROSSING "

THIS CAN BE FITTED AT ANY TIME
 

[5] Double Decked buses should not be used for school transport, they often carry a whole street, village or generation aboard & have little at all in the way of safety features

SOME COUNCILS ARE SCRAPPING THEIR USE

 [6] Dedicated School transport, very visible as such. Yellow buses might be a way ahead, but this needs careful consideration first

 [7] At present some buses are used as both service & school transport. This  should not be,the laws are also different. Children should be only carried on school transport.

 

If children are being carried their safety is a priority, its school transport on the cheap & to avoid laws, as in seat belts that can protect your child.
We have 20mph limits around schools to protect children, surely it cannot be out with the bounds of reality that traffic cannot simply stop for a few moments as a bus unloads.
 
We need to think this through so we can protect our children as their parents expect,as in fact the children themselves expect to be protected.
 
What we don’t need is the status quo, things have to change, we cannot go on killing &  injuring our school children
IT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE

WE REALISE THAT SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS HAVE A DIFFICULT JOB AT TIMES BUT WE SIMPLY ASK THEM

  "PLEASE REMOVE THE SCH0OL SIGN WHEN NOT CARRYING CHILDREN"

EVENTUALLY IT WILL HELP SAVE LIVES.
WE HAVE NEVER  BLAMED ANY BUS DRIVER they are usually stopped at the time of any accident, they probably suffer horrendous flashbacks, as we expect the children who actually witnessed the accident have done.
BUT THEY HAVE TO REALISE THE SIGN HAS TO BE REMOVED.THIS ALSO NEEDS TO BE ADOPTED BY ALL COUNCILS.
