I was invited to a meeting of Aberdeenshire safety council in Kemnay, having have spoken with some of the group before in Inverurie.

Yes i was impressed by what they do as groups in the various areas of Aberdeenshire..
Of how they raise safety on a daily basis, a whole range of safety, with some great ideas including

If you have just passed your driving test, Aberdeenshire Council will give you £45 when you complete the Pass Plus scheme. It usually costs upwards from £150 to take the Pass Plus course so you will get it for £105 and you could make big savings on the cost of your insurance..

This is a great scheme for young drivers, sadly you can also find details on the past decade of road accidents in this & other areas, it is a real eye opener.

Visit their site for details of what they help offer or advise, it’s impressive & covers many subjects, it’s also a credit to all who are involved in this council,

Also very impressed by some areas who have given out reflective hi vis vests to younger school pupils

I was particularly impressed by everyone’s enthusiasm who take part plus all the agencies involved, in most cases ordinary folk trying hard making a difference to the area they stay in.
This is from their own web page & sums it up

The feeling of being safe and secure within one's own home, workplace or a public area is an obvious essential element of Community Safety.
It involves the protection of everyone's right to live in, work in, or simply visit Aberdeenshire in confidence, without fear for their own or other peoples' well being, and includes the protection of their property.
Community Safety can be about:
• preventing crime and the opportunity for it to be committed;
• creating safe communities for residents and visitors;
• generally improving upon the quality of life for everyone.
But, it is also about:
developing partnerships between the council, police, fire brigade, coastguard, local businesses, organisations, other service providers, voluntary agencies and, most importantly, local communities

It also supports much in the way of road safety, which of course we very much support.

This area has a shocking record for teenage deaths & injuries on the road, tragically this affects so many people, it also destroys lives. Not only those who are lost or left often severely injured, but all the extended family suffer as well.

We are not pointing any finger at anyone, we simply want , as most right thinking people would, how can we stop this happening again & again & leaving others with the tragic aftermath & consequences.

If any one knows how this suffering affects a family, our group does, we cannot turn clocks back, but that does not stop us wishing we could! Nor expressing our sorrow for those who have found themselves in this same position.

It matters not how any youngster or child was killed, the fact is they were & maybe others can change the circumstances, & by doing so save another family from going through the darkest hole on earth.

Although we concentrate on Scotland in most matters, we give advice & help to parents & groups UK wide.It is not only a Scottish Problem.
